Istighfaar is built to help you remember Allah — quietly, privately, and without distraction. We collect as little data as possible. We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads. What happens on your device largely stays on your device.

Who We Are
Istighfaar is an independent mobile application developed and operated in Ontario, Canada. The app is available on the Apple App Store and is designed to support daily dhikr, tasbeeh counting, morning and evening adhkar, and spiritual consistency through streak tracking.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Istighfaar mobile application and the website at istighfaar.com. By using the app or website, you agree to the practices described here.
We are accountable for personal information under our control and have designated a privacy contact responsible for compliance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). PIPEDA — Accountability

What We Collect
We are committed to data minimization — we collect only what is necessary for the app to function. PIPEDA — Limiting Collection
Information you provide voluntarily:
- Display name (optional, leaderboard only — the app works fully without it)
- Email address (only if you contact us for support)
Information collected automatically:
- Anonymous usage data to help us improve the app
- Crash reports and diagnostic logs (these do not identify you personally)
- Device type and OS version for compatibility purposes
Stored locally on your device only (never uploaded):
- Your dhikr counts, streak data, and progress
- Your selected adhkar and personal settings
- Your milestone completion status
Your dhikr counts, streaks, and spiritual progress are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers. This data belongs to you and stays with you.
What we do NOT collect:
- Location data of any kind
- Contacts, photos, or camera data
- Health or biometric data
- Financial information

How We Use Your Information
We use information only for the purposes for which it was collected. PIPEDA — Limiting Use
- Operating and improving the Istighfaar app
- Fixing bugs and diagnosing technical issues
- Displaying your display name on the leaderboard if you choose to set one
- Responding to support requests
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.
You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us or deleting the app. PIPEDA — Consent

Third Parties & Service Providers
Any third party that handles your data is required to protect it to the same standard as this policy and may only use it to perform services on our behalf. PIPEDA — Accountability
- Apple — processes app downloads and device-level analytics. Governed by apple.com/legal/privacy.
- Firebase / Google (if applicable) — anonymous crash reporting and analytics. Data is anonymized before transmission.
- Backend hosting (if applicable) — leaderboard data storage for opted-in account features only.
We do not share your personal information with data brokers, advertising networks, or any third party for marketing purposes.

Data Storage & Retention
Most data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to us. Any personal information we do hold is retained only as long as necessary. PIPEDA — Limiting Retention
- Support emails — retained for a maximum of 12 months
- Leaderboard display names — retained until you request removal or delete your account
- Anonymized crash and analytics data — retained for up to 24 months
To delete all data associated with your account, contact us below. Requests are fulfilled within 30 days.

Your Rights
Under PIPEDA and applicable Canadian privacy law, you have the right to: PIPEDA — Individual Access
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correct — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Withdraw consent — at any time, subject to legal restrictions
- Deletion — request that we delete your personal information

We respond to all requests within 30 days at no charge. If you are unsatisfied, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or 1-800-282-1376.
To delete your dhikr data, streaks, and settings, simply delete the Istighfaar app from your iPhone. This removes all locally stored data immediately.

Security
We implement safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold. PIPEDA — Safeguards
- Data transmitted to our servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/HTTPS
- Access to personal information is limited to those who need it
- Security practices are reviewed regularly
In the event of a breach that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada without undue delay.

Children's Privacy
Istighfaar is suitable for all ages. However, the app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
The leaderboard feature should not be used by children under 13 without parental supervision.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes we will update the effective date, post a notice in the app where practical, and seek your consent where required by law. PIPEDA — Openness
